GTS Story GTS Modifications GTS Pictures

I always wanted one of these Toyotas. I believe this is the pinancle of the RWD Corolla line. When new, they were expensive for a Corolla and not many were sold in the US. The GTS was made from 1985-1987 in RWD form. They share the same motor(4age) as my MR2. That means a 7600rpm redline which is fun! The 85 was a unique year for them and arguably the best looking. They featured bigger letters on the lower doors and the spoiler on the hatch (86 hatch didn't have it). Hatchback was discontinued in 1987. Look on the sight in pic section of a magazine ad featuring an 85 to see how they differ looks wise from mine. I also remember the TV commercial for them which featured an 85 hatch at a Indy track.

Besides more power, the GTS featured color keyed trim, rear disk brakes, more standard features, bigger tires and rims than the SR5 RWD Corolla version among other things. It took years to find a nice one. GTS RWDs are very popular and in demand. Finding one unmodded is very tough as well. This one was bought from the original owner in PA who was a really nice guy along with his family who I am sure were sad to see it go. Original paint etc.. Plans for this car are to add the optional aluminum wheels, 86 Supra stereo (looks better at night), new steering wheel and shift knob, new wheel bearings and a good detail. Only mod planned is maybe a TRD shifter to keep the original shifter safe and intact. At this time car has new pedal pads, detailed interior, new back inside panels and replaced broken seat belt retractor in the driver's side. Factory options on this car are the cassette player, dual stage AC, LSD rear carrier, rear wiper and floor mats.

Driving this car reminds me of my first Toyota (the brown 80 SR5 on "other cars" page) but with more power up in the higher rpms ranges. This car by far is in the best shape than any of the others (Toyotas) when I first got them. It needs very very little to be mint and in 1 years time I hope it will be.
